Terms of Service

By accessing or using distil ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all users, including free and paid subscribers.

distil is a document conversion service that transforms PDF, DOCX, MD, TXT, and HTML files into structured Markdown with YAML frontmatter, intended for use in AI retrieval pipelines (RAG), vector databases, and LLM context workflows. The Service is provided via a web dashboard and a REST API.

You must register for an account to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information during registration. Accounts may not be shared or transferred.

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Upload documents containing illegal, harmful, or copyrighted content you are not authorised to process.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the API beyond your plan limits.
• Resell or redistribute access to the Service without prior written consent.
• Interfere with the availability or integrity of the Service.

Free accounts are provided at no charge within usage limits. Paid plans (Pro, Scale) are billed monthly via Stripe. Prices are in EUR and exclude applicable taxes. You may cancel at any time via the billing portal — access continues until the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial months.

Each plan has a monthly page conversion limit that resets on the first day of each calendar month. Exceeding your limit will result in conversion requests being rejected with a 402 response until your limit resets or you upgrade.

Documents you upload are processed to produce structured output and are not stored beyond the job retention window (Free: 24 hours · Pro: 7 days · Scale: 30 days). We do not use your documents to train AI models. Processing infrastructure is hosted in the EU (Supabase Frankfurt, Mistral EU, Vercel EU). For details, see our Privacy Policy.

You retain ownership of all documents you upload and the output generated from them. distil retains ownership of the Service, its software, and its brand. Nothing in these terms transfers intellectual property rights either way beyond what is necessary to operate the Service.

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for losses resulting from downtime, data loss, or errors in generated output.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, distil's total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the Service is limited to the amount you paid in the three months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, for non-payment, or at our sole discretion with reasonable notice. You may delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days.

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
